HOLDING AND AFFIRMING OUR COLLECTIVE HEALING JOURNEY

"Sana, sana, culito de rana, si no sanas hoy, sanarás mañana" is a well-known Spanish language expression I grew up hearing in my Cuban household. Although several variations of it exist, this one basically translates to "heal, heal, little frog's booty, if you don't heal today, you'll heal tomorrow." The expression is typically said to a child to comfort them after they’ve been hurt, and the reference to the frog's behind is meant to bring in some humor during a moment of pain.

My liberation and healing are bound up with yours. I see healing as an ongoing process that we do for ourselves, our community, and the ones who will come after us. A process where we collectively hold space for each other, tend to our wounds, laugh, and strengthen our capacity to survive and thrive.

Whether we work together or not, I hope that the resources I share here can contribute to a little healing - if not today, maybe tomorrow.

In solidarity,

Aurelio García, LCSW (he/él)

PSYCHOTHERAPY
FOR INDIVIDUALS & RELATIONSHIPS

Note: my psychotherapy practice is fully online for clients living in Pennsylvania.

I provide affirming therapy in English and Spanish for adults, including those who identify as people of color, LGBQ+, neurodiverse, trans/gender expansive, kinky, and polyamorous/non-monogamous. I also support folks exploring identities, and those seeking to heal from trauma and emotional wounds. Being human can feel hard and messy. I offer a warm therapeutic relationship grounded in principles of collaboration, antiracism, and the belief that we all have the innate ability to engage in healing.

Our work together can help you feel seen, increase self-awareness, and bring clarity to your relationships and areas where you might feel stuck or uncertain. Together we’ll explore your whole being, including all the complex parts, creating opportunities for healing at your own pace.

I also believe we can heal via our relationships. I enjoy working with couples and platonic relationships looking to deepen their connection, improve communication, and increase their sense of feeling seen/understood. My experience offering relationship therapy has shown that the work is better supplemented when everyone involved is also receiving individual therapy.

I've been a psychotherapist for over 10 years. I'm formally trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), completed a year of intensive training in Gestalt therapy, and in 2023 completed this course in Internal Family Systems (IFS) - a modality that is often referred to as “parts work.” My favorite therapeutic approach is IFS-informed EMDR, where I get to combine the benefits of both of these modalities and cater them to the individual and/or relationship. I take a non-pathological approach to mental health. I generally don't overemphasize western medical perspectives, but I can provide evaluations and diagnosis as needed.

For those pursuing gender affirmation surgeries, I can provide psychological assessments and letters for your insurance/surgeon. I identify as Latinx, queer, trans, neurodiverse (ADHD) and polyamorous. Please feel free to reach out - I’d love to chat about potentially working together.

SLIDING SCALE FEES

I am not in-network with any health insurances but can provide the appropriate invoices if you have

out-of-network benefits. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to learn more.

  • Individuals: (50 mins) $150-200

  • Individuals: (75 mins) $200-225

  • Couples/Relationships: (75 mins) $225-280

Why Sliding Scale Fees? In order for me to offer a limited number of free and lower-fee sessions*, I use a cost sharing process in the form of relying on folks who have access to more financial resources paying the higher end of the fee scale so that folks with fewer resources can get support without excess strain.

*Space is limited depending on current caseload and priority is given to lower-income queer/trans people of color.

Guidelines that may help determine your fee:

  • If you live with very little wiggle room financially, choose the lower end of the scale. Please discuss with me if this is still a stretch.

  • If you are doing well enough to regularly eat out, buy new clothes, have no trouble paying your bills or buying groceries, choose the middle to upper end of the scale.

  • If you enjoy the benefits listed above plus enjoy vacations/travel, have investments, assets and/or a significant savings, or if paid work is an option, choose the top of the scale.
